WHITE SHOES & THE COUPLES COMPANY - 1000 TAHUN LAGI
Back in 2018, White Shoes & The Couples Company (WSATCC) took a train trip to Malang to perform at the Folk Music Festival. Me, Indra Ameng, and John Navid, the three of us collaborate on a travel video that would be used as a teaser for WSATCC's performance. The song they chose "1000 Tahun Lagi" had its own backstory. In October 2017, WSATCC originally created it for a theater production titled "Perempuan-Perempuan Chairil", directed by Agus Noor and produced by Titimangsa Foundation. The lyrics were ada[ted from Chairil Anwar's iconic poem "Aku."
We started filming from the moment the instruments were loaded onto the train in the early morning, captured the members' prep at Gudang Sarinah Ekosistem around noon, waited at Gambir Station in the afternoon, and finally boarded the Gajayana train heading to Malang. John and I explored every corner of the train, setting up little scenes that could naturally play out in each space. We even kept filming during smoke breaks. Two years later, the song was re-released in a new version as part of the "2020" album. The footage we had shot earlier was reworked and eventually turned into a music video, which was released shortly before the album came out.
This project wasn't just a travel doc, it became proof that even the smallest moments have the potential to grow into something meaningful. It turned in a visual extension of the song's journey, while also capturing a personal milestone in my creative experience with WSATCC.
